On Sunday 10 Colombian soldiers were killed by suspected guerrilla factions in different parts of the country. One incident left 7 police officers dead when an explosive device ignited in Tibu, Colombia where the ELN (National Liberation Army) operates. The other incident occurred in southern Colombia where soldiers engaged in a gun battle with the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Force of Colombia).
Tensions in Colombia had been running high with the Sunday Presidential elections and departing President Alvaro Uribe’s popular stance against all guerrilla movement embraced by all the candidates.
