A Colombian priest on vacation was shot to death by unknown gunmen in Norte de Santander province, which borders on Venezuela, police said Sunday.

Luis Alfredo Suarez Salazar, 50, was shot dead in the town of Ocaña, according to the police commander in Norte del Santander, Col. Eliecer Camacho Jimenez.

The police official said that the attack on the vacationing priest occurred on Saturday and that the authorities are offering a reward of up to 20 million pesos (a little over $11,000) for information leading to the capture of the killers.

Colombian authorities are working the case on the statements of local residents who said that Suarez Salazar was attacked by two men riding on a motorcycle who - without saying a word - opened fire on him, hitting him multiple times.
