Colombian Miners Remain Trapped

Rescues efforts for 62 Colombian miners were halted when toxic gases were discovered and fear that another explosion would occur.  It is not known when the search will resume.  The Colombian government has been leading the search for the missing miners since Wednesday, June 16 when the massive explosion occurred at the San Fernando mine in Antioquia, Colombia.

The explosion occurred in the evening during a shift change.  79 miners were on duty, 11 were killed instantly, 6 survived and the others remained trapped.  The explosion was so strong it was felt and heard in neighboring towns.
