Colombian police captured in the northwestern municipality of Bello a career criminal accused of plotting to kill Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, authorities said Friday.

The chief of the Bogota Metropolitan Police, Gen. Edgar Sanchez, told reporters that Alejandro Caicedo Alfonso, alias “Scooby,” was arrested Tuesday.

Caicedo and two accomplices entered Venezuela in August to “commit criminal acts” such as robbery and murder-for-hire, Sanchez said.

The accomplices, identified as Victor Gueche, 18, and Erik Huertas, 22, were caught on Aug. 15 near Caracas and were charged with attempted homicide against Madurol.

At the time they were nabbed, Gueche and Huertas were carrying rifles with laster sights, ammunition and a photo of Maduro with Venezuelan legislative speaker Diosdado Cabello.

Venezuelan authorities then accused Colombian ex-President Alvaro Uribe of mounting the plot against Maduro.

Besides the planned attempt on Maduro’s life, Caicedo was the object of an Interpol Red Notice in connection with homicide and drug charges in Ecuador.

In Colombia, Caicedo was wanted by the authorities for drug trafficking.
