More than 24,000 marijuana plants were seized at plantations in Los Vilos, a sector in Chile’s Coquimbo region, police spokesmen said Sunday.
The region is located about 222 kilometers (137 miles) north of Santiago, the South American country’s capital.
The plants would have produced about 12 tons of the drug, with a street value of some $24 million, the PDI police agency said.
A PDI drug enforcement unit discovered the marijuana plants during an operation.
The plants were hidden in dense vegetation in a hard to reach area, police said.
