Chile to Return Ambassador to Honduras; Recognized President Lobo

A year after the coup, Chile reestablishes relations with Honduras and recognizes President Porfirio Lobo was elected in a free and democratic process. Lobo was elected by over 56% of the vote in last November’s elections.

Following the June 2009 coup in Honduras, when soldiers removed President Manuel Zelaya from office at gunpoint and flew him out of the country, Chile and many other nations had broken off relations with Honduras.
In just over a year, Chile reestablishes relations with Honduras and recognizes President Porfirio Lobo was elected in a free and democratic process. Lobo was elected by over 56% of the vote in last November’s elections. Other nations including Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Nicaragua have not recognized Lobo.
