Just hours after receiving a leadership award, a Chicago woman and her male companion were busted on drug charges.
Jill Kaplan, 33, and Leo Perez, 37, were at the Hard Rock Hotel on Michigan on Monday celebrating the “Tomorrow’s Leader” award she had received earlier that night.
Kaplan, who works for AnswersMedia was honored at a gala hosted by MPIChicago. Perez’ Twitter account states he is a technology consultant for It Solutions.
Before arresting Kaplan and Perez, police had obtained a warrant to search their home on the 800 block of West Superior Street. After forcing their way inside, police found a number of drugs stashed throughout the house.
Police say they found drugs in the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. Other items recovered included:
- loaded Glock 22 and a ammunition
- drug-packaging materials
- 100 grams of cocaine
- 160 grams of oxycodone
- small amounts of liquid steroid
- vials of morphine
- a “green leafy substance”
After searching the home, authorities learned Perez and Kaplan were at the hotel on Michigan Avenue.
When police searched Kaplan’s belongings at the hotel, they found a small amount of cocaine in her purse. The award-winner was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Perez, who was the subject of the search, was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, a gun charge, and four counts of possession.
The Purdue graduate’s bond was set at $50,000, while Kaplan’s was set at $10,000.
