Border Patrol agents were on patrol, last Thursday, near the Rio Grande River, near La Casita, Texas when they observed several people loading wrapped packages into the vehicle. When the authorities approached the alleged smugglers fled. The vehicle was stuffed with over 1,000 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $3.5 million.
La Casita-Garciasville, as the town is formally known, is a border town with nearly 2,200 residents with median family income pegged at $17,150.
