The Chinese government has found an ally in Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in agreeing that jailed dissident, Liu Xiaobo, should not have received the Nobel Prize for Peace.
The Chinese government reacted angrily when the award was given to Xiaobo who is currently in a Chinese jail for his opposition to the government. Chavez agreed with the Chinese government that Xiaobo is a criminal. Chavez was also critical of President Barack Obama receiving the peace prize last year and views the Nobel Prize Committee as “lackeys of the West.”
China is one of the largest consumer’s of Venezuelan-produced oil with plans to increase its purchases to 1 million barrels a day by 2012. “Viva China! And its sovereignty, its independence and its greatness,” Chavez stated as his concluded his comments on the matter.
