Changes Approved for Catholic Mass

On August 20 it was announced that Cardinal Francis George, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, received the final English text of the third edition of the Roman Missal.

As expected, implementation of the English translation in the United States of America will take place on November 27, 2011, the first Sunday of Advent.

As of August 20,  the final version of the Order of Mass can be viewed on the website of the BCDW .

Among other things, you may notice:

The Memorial Acclamation, “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again,” has not been approved for inclusion in the Missal for the United States.

The words of concluding the Penitential Act have been modified (they remain the same as in the current Sacramentary).

“Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,” which will change to “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof.”

The addition of “I believe” at three additional points in the Profession of faith

The Bishops Committee on Divine Worship, along with the International Committee on English in the Liturgy (ICEL), will be working the coming weeks to prepare the texts for distribution to publishers in the U.S.
