Oscar Nuñez, known for his role on the hit television show The Office and as the server/store clerk/stripper in the Sandra Bullock/Ryan Reynolds rom-com The Proposal will reportedly play Jose Baez, the man who famously served as Casey Anthony’s trial lawyer, in the upcoming Lifetime movie Prosecuting Casey Anthony.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the film’s writer, Alison Cross, said Nuñez had “a fantastic audition,” saying she was “wowed” by him “range and ability to channel Jose.”
Playing the role of prosecutor Jeff Ashton, is Rob Lowe. The movie is reportedly based on his book, “Imperfect Justice.”
The film’s 20-day production is scheduled to begin at the end of May in Winnipeg.
In other Casey Anthony news, the woman Anthony claimed took her daughter, Caylee, is suing the former mother for defamation.
Lawyers for Zanaida Gonzalez, whom Anthony referred to as “Zanny the nanny”, were only recently able to get Anthony’s lawyers to accept a subpoena on their client’s behalf.
Anthony’s lawyers claim it is unsafe for their client to come out of hiding and appear in court, but by accepting the subpoena.
“It’s interesting that they’re taking this extreme position. Clearly she doesn’t want to come to the courthouse, but guess what, that is an issue,” Gonzalez’s attorney John Dill said.
In 2008, Anthony claimed Zanny the Nanny took her 2-year-old daughter. Investigators eventually found the toddler’s body. Gonzalez was cleared and Anthony was charged.
In one of the most reported-on trials in recent history, Anthony was found not guilty in July 2011.
Those disgusted by the photos of Anthony out dancing and partying while her daughter was still missing, her shocked by the verdict.
Still, Anthony will have to head back into court to face the defamation lawsuit from Gonzalez. The civil trial is due to begin in January 2013.
