Cameron Diaz has officially been cast as the mean ol’ MIss Hannigan in the upcoming remake of Annie.

The Bad Teacher actress will star alongside Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stack (the new take on Daddy Warbucks) and Oscar-nominated young actress Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts Of The Southern Wild) as little orphan Annie. Will Smith and rap mogul Jay-Z are producing the project, with Easy A director Will Gluck signed on to direct.

Prior to choosing Diaz for Miss Hannigan, the mean-spirited matron at the orphanage, Sandra Bullock was also said to be interested in the part. The original 1982 film version of Annie had Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan and recently, “Glee” star Jane Lynch made her Broadway debut as the acerbic woman.

The Annie revamp will reportedly be in theaters December 2014.
