The women’s creative director of Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa, will bring his newest line to Macy’s stores this spring. The Brazilian designer, winner of the 2006 Designer of the Year Award, will unveil his new line at Macy’s on May 15th as a spring promotion, entitled “A Magical Journey to Brazil,” to benefit the Amazon rainforest.
The line will include crepe and jersey dresses priced between $135 and $180. More than 80 Macy’s stores as well as Macys.com will offer the apparel under the Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein label. Costa grew up in Guarani, Brazil.
Both Macy’s executives as well as Costa are excited about the upcoming collaboration. Costa states, “This fresh youthful line of dresses reflects both my roots and the modern, yet timeless spirit of Calvin Klein.” Executive vice president of marketing, Martine Reardon told New York Magazine, the collaboration is a “huge coup for us.” She continued to state, “We obviously have a huge distribution of Calvin Klein products but we do not carry the (designer) collection that Francisco creates. Unfortunately those price points are not within Macy’s price points.”
Through this collaboration, Macy’s customers will enjoy the designer label at a fraction of the usual cost while at the same time aide in efforts to save the Amazon rainforest. Although Reardon declined to name names, it is thought that Macy’s also plans to work with other designers from the U.S. and South America in the future.
