The uncle of Rene Perez, of the Calle 13 duo, was shot to death in Puerto Rico over the weekend.

Perez’s 49-year-old uncle, Roberto Joglar Rios, was shot in front of a school in San Juan, a suburb of Rio Pedras.  The Grammy-winning singer blamed the high crime rate on the island as the cause of death, he hails from the island.

Perez who is also known as “Residente” and his stepbrother Eduardo Cabra, known as “Visitante,” make up the alternative music band that has won 19 Latin Grammys and two Grammys.

The singer revealed in a chat with fans that he often thinks that he won’t live past the age of 40-years-old, based on a number of dreams he has had in the past.

“It’s not that I’m a negative person,” the singer said during a videochat with Puero Rican news site Primera Hora, “but I don’t think I’m going to get to 40. I dream a lot about that, and they say dreams come true,” René said.
