Wednesday morning a bus fell down a 164-foot ravine in Arequipa, Peru killing 20.
The bus was traveling in the mountainous region of Quiscos enroute to Puno, in the Arequipa region, when it went off the cliff. Reports indicate that there were forty-eight passengers on board most of them mine workers. The death toll could rise since 18 others were severely injured.
This region of southern Peru is known for its deadly winding steep roads. Wednesday’s deadly accident follows one earlier this month, when a bus drove off a ravine and plunged some 460 feet, also in the Arequipa region That accident left 14 dead and 38 injured. Authorities believe there were too many passengers on the bus and the bus was not property maintained.
Arequipa is the second most populated city in Peru located 620 miles south of the Lima.
