Photo: Britney Spears announces tour with Enrique Iglesias UPDATE: Iglesias cancels
Mere hours after Britney Spears’ pre-taped announcement that Enrique Iglesias would be a part of the summer tour, Billboard.com and Radar Online are reporting that he has backed out, allegedly because he did not want to be an opening act for anyone.
Live Nation, the tour’s promoters, sent out a media advisory stating: “Enrique Iglesias is no longer on this tour,” no other details were given.
“Plans called for Iglesias, who is currently on tour in Europe, to be much more than a standard opening act; he was slated to carry full production on the Spears tour,” Billboard reported. “While two such high-profile artists with top-shelf production values was sure to be attractive to fans, such an endeavor is also very expensive to produce.”
So much for that “big announcement.” Way to be a bummer, Enrique.
Tuesday morning, in Britney Spear’s pre-taped concert broadcast for Good Morning America celebrating the release of her latest album Femme Fatale, it was announced that she will be touring with Latin lothario Enrique Iglesias.
After performing her hit dance single “Hold It Against Me,” the 29-year-old singer announced “I’m going on tour with Enrique Iglesias in June.”
The GMA announcement was taped Sunday, and the show had been hinting that Spear’s would make a big announcement.
Femme Fatale, Spear’s 7th album, was released Tuesday, and the summer tour with Iglesias, 35, is scheduled to start in Sacramento, California on June 17, and end on August 13 in Toronto.
