A Venezuelan armored truck carrying 1,700,000 Bolívares (395 Million dollars) was robbed by six men, while a guard had an empanada breakfast!
Shortly after 6:30 am local time today, the truck stopped in the middle of the street so the driver could get some empanadas for breakfast. Shortly thereafter six armed men opened fire on the stopped armored truck with two guards inside that had remained in the truck during the empanada run.
The armed hoodlums killed one guard and wounded another and incredibly were able to leave before the hungry driver came back with the empanadas. The gunmen emptied the truck of almost $400,000,000 in cash. The beloved empanada is a favorite of Latin Americans and can be stuffed with cheese, meats or veggies but surely this will be the costliest empanada run in Latin American history.
Police are investigating the case and units chasing the criminals think they are trying to get to the Orinoco River and escape on a boat.
The Venezuelan National Guard is patrolling the river, but so far nobody has been found.
