A gunman fired shots in a Phoenix valley shopping mall on Wednesday prompting an evacuation of the building and extensive search for the suspect, police said.
U.S. Marshals Service spokesman Jeff Carter said the incident began when police tried to arrest the suspect, Daniel Munoz Perez, who was wanted for shooting at an Arizona Public Safety officer last month.
“Perez fled into a store at the Chandler Mall. The store is being locked down and the mall evacuated. This is an ongoing operation,” Carter said.
Perez was mistakenly released from Jail in mid December where he was being held for a December arrest.
Police report that there was a brief shooting outside the mall, when the suspect ran into the mall. A large-scale evacuation of the Chandler Fashion Center.
The suspect has just been taken into custody and 2 hostages have been released. No one was injured during the shooting.
