Thursday - Virginia Tech officials have issued an alert that a gunman was spotted on the university’s Blacksburg campus.
Reports say a man with a gun was seen near Dietrick Hall 9:37 a.m. (local time). At 10:29 a.m., officials issued another warning telling those on campus to stay indoors until further notice.
Dietrick is the school’s dining hall located at the center of the campus.
Shortly after the first alert was sent out, officials say three juveniles attending a camp at the university reported seeing a white male outside of New Residence Hall East. He appeared to be carrying a gun, which he had covered by a cloth or covering of some kind.
He is described as about 6 feet tall with light brown hair, no facial hair, and is not wearing glasses. He is said to be wearing and blue and white striped shirt (possibly gray), gray shorts, and brown sandals.
It is said he was walking towards the volleyball courts.
Officers from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Montgomery County are patrolling the campus, and are still looking for the suspect.
In 2007, Virginia Tech was the site of a shooting rampage that left 32 people dead and 25 wounded. It ws the worse campus shooting in U.S. history..
