Brazilian Authorities Arrest 27 Police Officers for Drug and Arms Trafficking

Yesterday, Brazilian police authorities announced the arrest of 35 individuals which included 27 police officers from Rio de Janiero on suspicion they have ties to organized crime.

After a long investigation, that included informants and wire tapping, 45 arrest warrants and 47 search warrants were served.  ‘Operation Guillotine’ as the operation was known implicated 27 police officers in drug and arms trafficking and a former head of civil police being charged with accepting bribes from drug traffickers.

In December of last year 13 other police officers were arrested for arms trafficking and extortion in the favela neighborhoods of Rio de Janiero.
