A Brazilian actor almost hanged himself fatally while playing the part of Judas in an Easter Passion play and was taken to hospital in serious condition, online media said Saturday.
The accident occurred on Good Friday in the town of Itarare, 345 kilometers (214 miles) west of Sao Paulo, where the actor Thiago Klimeck was acting the role of Judas, who according to the Evangelists hanged himself after betraying Jesus.
Klimeck apparently made a mistake when he pulled the rope around his neck and the other actors failed to notice that he was unconscious and thought he was just acting, according to a report by security personnel cited on the G1 news portal.
But a few minutes later they at last realized that the actor was unconscious, and with the aid of an emergency management team they lowered him, freed him from the noose and rushed him to a nearby medical center.
Due to the gravity of the case, on Saturday morning he was transferred to a hospital in the neighboring city of Itapeva.
