Photo: BRAZIL: Soccer Ref Beheaded After Stabbing Player During Fight
“Out of control” is an understatement when describing the events that unfolded at a recent soccer match in Brazil.
The bizarre and horrifying events took place at an amateur match in Pio XII, Maranha after referee Otavio Jordao da Silva, 20, sent player Josenir dos Santos Abreu, 30, off the field.
When Abreu refused to leave the field, a fist fight between he and da Silva began, at which point, da Silva pulled out a knife and stabbed the player.
The family and supporters of Abreu, who reportedly died on the way to the hospital, rushed the field to attack da Silva.
At least three peope stoned, dismembered, and then placed the head of da Silva on a spike in the center of the soccer field.
As police continue to look for two suspects, one was caught and confessed to his part in the brutal attack of da Silva. However, he denied delivering any of the blows that lead to the referee’s death.
Spokesman for Marahno’s Public Safety Department, Valter Costa, stated, ‘We will identify and hold accountable all those involved in this incident.
‘One crime will never justify another. Actions like this do not correspond with state law.’
This incident occurs as Brazil prepares for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
This most recent gruesome event does nothing to improve the safety issues noticed by many.
