Bad new for Tres Generaciones tequila, its premier spokesman Oscar de la Hoya has just acknowledges he is in rehab for a substance abuse problem.
The 10-time boxing champion-writer-singer admitted to TMZ, who broke the story, that he has been in a California-base treatment facility for the past several weeks.
Noting, “Like everyone, I have my flaws, and I do not want to be one of those people that is afraid to admit and address those flaws.” “Throughout my career and my life, I have always met all challenges head-on, and this is no different. I am confident that with the support of my family and friends, I will become a stronger, healthier person.”
Some had suspected the Mexican-American boxing great was in rehab since he had been tweeting inspirational, 12-step type messages to his Twitter followers.
According to sources and TMZ the 38-year old, De la Hoya voluntarily checked himself in to a facility whose name is not known.
De la Hoya won a gold medal at the Olympics shortly after graduating high school and from there went on to become a boxing legend and own a national boxing promoting company, the only Hispanic to do so.
