U.S. Customs and Border Protection is reporting that at least five individuals were killed when the SUV they were traveling in over turned after being pursued by Border Patrol agents in Arizona.
There are conflicting reports as to how many individuals were in the Chevy Tahoe when it crashed drove through a border checkpoint near Vail, Arizona. Local authorities are reporting 22 individuals while Border Patrol is reporting 18 were inside the vehicle.
Early reports indicate the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle and rolled.
Border Patrol has not released any other details such as the identity or nationality of the deceased and why the vehicle was being pursued. Some reports indicate the Tahoe blew past an immigration checkpoint.
There are numerous immigration interior checkpoints close to the U.S.-Mexico border, some are permanent and others are set up without prior notice.
