The adventures of the Mexican drug trafficker Joaquin El Chapo Guzman, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, will be brought to television screens in the United States.

UNIMAS, one of the major broadcast networks in Spanish and owned by Univision, has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to the Narco series bearing the name of “The Man of Drugs.” which will air in the coming October. The Colombian writer Andrés López wrote the series. López wrote and directed the successful telenovelas El Cartel and Mafia Dolls.

The former member of the Cartel del Valle North and author said it was written during his confinement in jail. He said that it is the most challenging project that he has had so far. Speaking to the Associated Press, the author said: ” It’s risky because we are telling a reality that affects a society in the present and is the story of a character who has a name. “

The series is inspired by the activities of El Chapo, the drug trafficker wanted by Mexican authorities and U.S. and whose fame landed him on the pages of Forbes magazine, calling him “the world’s most powerful drug trafficker.” In the “Man of the Drug”, Andrés López promises to explore even deeper, complicated and extremely dangerous life a major drug lord, going beyond the “business” to illustrate the consequences of their illegal activities on his personal life and the people around them. “Today’s announcement is a further demonstration of our commitment to present the best alternative programming in the U.S., “said Alberto Ciurana, President of Programming and Content Univision Networks, the company that is associated with Televisa. “And to have Andrew with us as a writer, we can offer our audience an experience unprecedented in terms of authenticity and realism. ” “I am extremely excited that ‘The Man of Drugs’ will be brought to the small screen by UNIMAS” said in turn the writer Andrés López.
