Thirteen years after his escape from Puente Grande prison, federal authorities continue to seek to recapture the Drug Lord through strategies such as the development of a report on his inner circle of friends and family, which was updated in October. The document, which was seen by the newspaper Reforma, contains biographical data of 22 family members, 21 employees and 27 security people that give protection to El Chapo. In addition the report includes unpublished images of these people, including seven of El Chapos romantic partners and their children.

According to the federal government, the drug dealer has two distinct weaknesses’, women, and his taste for comfort. The authorities have tried hunting down El Chapo, using voice banks, databases with information from department stores and TV companies and satellite Internet.  Despite all efforts, El Chapo seems to have enough intelligence to circumvent these strategies and the operations of the federal forces to stop him. The official report noted that in the past 10 years El Chapo has remained hidden in inaccessible areas of the “Golden Triangle”, including six points of Sinaloa and twelve locations in Durango.

The last time he was about to be recaptured was the February 21, 2012 in Punta Ballena in Los Cabos. At that time the Federal Police arrested the driver Angel Lopez Uriah, his assistant Mario Hinojosa Villegas, his cook Maria Luisa Yellow and Agustina Cabanillas Macias, who was a lover of El Chapo. The leader of the Sinaloa Cartel escaped by minutes. In addition, undercover agents have monitored the steps of Aispuro Emma Coronel, the current wife of drug trafficker; Alejandrina Guzmán Salazar, the daughter he had with Maria Alejandrina Salazar Hernandez and Frida Román Muñoz, widow of Edgar Guzman Lopez, the son of El Chapo killed in 2008.

Official information also details that Guzman is suffering from diabetes and heart disease that forces him to receive regular medical care. In December, according to one version of the DEA, allegedly the kingpin was admitted to a hospital in Jalisco after suffering a cardiac arrest.
