Texas authorities along with U.S. Immigration & Customs have announced the seizure of 5 tons of marijuana in a Harlingen warehouse late Friday evening.
Harlingen police observed suspicious activity at the warehouse located in town Friday morning and staked the location out. Police observed marijuana that was shrink wrapped on pallets being loaded onto a semi-trailer.
Harlingen sits only 14 miles from the U.S. Mexico border and 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Hispanics make up an overwhelming majority of the residents in Harlingen and most are of Mexican descent.
The pot, with a street value of $7.5 million, is the largest drug seizure in the history of Harlingen. The marijuana was found amongst boxes of dry food that will be donated to local food banks according to Valley Central news.
