David Ortiz has been hot the entire season, and now everyone around him is starting to carry their own. Ortiz has carried the team from the start. The Boston Red Sox exploded for their highest run output of the season in a 15-5 win over the Marlins. They will go for the sweep tonight at Fenway Park. According to mlb.com, Ortiz has homered in three straight games, a streak he last matched in 2009. In his last 10 games, he’s hitting .394 (13-for-33) with five homers.
In the fourth inning Ortiz hit a grand slam off of Marlins pitcher Rickey Nolasco. The grand slam was Ortiz’s 396th career homer, his 11th grand slam and the 10th with the Red Sox. Ortiz now has hit a homerun in three straight games. He’s batting .313, slugging .614 and has a on base percentage of .397!
Boston Red Sox are now 6 games behind the New York Yankees for the lead in the American League East. The Dominican born player is proving his team who dubbed him “the greatest clutch-hitter in the history of the Boston Red Sox” true.
