Photo: Benicio del Toro Confirmed for Marvel Studio's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Though his role is being kept a secret, at least for now, it has been confirmed that Benicio del Toro will play one of the leads in Marvel Studio’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
Del Toro is joining Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Chris Pratt on the project.
Deadline is reporting del Toro’s character is “built to be part of future Marvel films, which means he has signed a deal with options that put him into multiple movies.
Guardian of the Galaxy is the story of a U.S. pilot who finds himself in the middle of a universal conflict occurring in space. He is quickly on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.
Although the Guardians of the Galaxy were created back in 1969 by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan, the movie will be primarily focused on the 2008 reinvention of the team by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.
James Gunn is signed on to direct.
The action-adventure sci-fi flick has a release date of August 1, 2014.
