The Mexican Soccer Federation’s disciplinary committee handed down a two-match suspension to Atlas coach Tomas Boy for a scuffle with an opposing manager.
Angry after his team lost 3-1 in a quarterfinal with Santos Laguna, Boy tried to attack one of the opposing goal-scorers, but was intercepted by coach Pedro Caixinha.
The Atlas manager then pushed Caixinha in a scene that provoked widespread disgust in the Mexican media.
Another incident in the same match earned Atlas goalkeeper Miguel Pinto a one-match suspension.
The keeper was ejected in the 24th minute for touching the ball with his hands outside the area. His expulsion forced Atlas to play with only 10 men for the rest of the contest.
The disciplinary panel upheld the ejection and added the suspension.
The committee also imposed a one-match ban on America coach Miguel Herrera, who will now miss the first leg of his team’s semifinal clash with Monterrey.
Herrera was penalized for complaining too much to the officials during America’s quarterfinal dual with UNAM Pumas.
