Arrest Made in Juarez, México on Suspect of 62 Homicides

A man suspected of 62 homicides in Juarez México was arrested this past Tuesday. According to police, Murillo worked for the cartel for 3,000 pesos a week (about $240 dollars). Intelligence reports reveal Murillo, nicknamed “El Piwi,” could very well be associated with La Linea, or Juárez drug cartel.

The arrests were made Tuesday after police on patrol heard gunshots and found a young man shot in the chest. The officers managed to stop the attackers’ car as they tried to speed away. This is when police made the arrests on the alleged hit men. In addition to Murillo, Luis Adrián Fernández Mercado, 20, and Sergio Estrada Estrada, 24 were arrested.

Named one of the most violent cities in the world, Juárez is averaging 10 murders a day this month, with about 230 homicides in June. The city has had more than 1,310 killings this year.
