The Hotel and Lodging Association of Arizona estimates tourism brings in $2.4 billion every year. Chief executive Debbie Johnson believes it is a low estimate but confirms that the state has lost about 40 conventions and $15 million so far. There are many people whose livelihoods are dependent upon the convention and tourism trade who are very concerned over Arizona’s negative image. A lot of work will be required to entice people back to Arizona.
Republican Gov Jan Brewer, who signed the law, has said she will fight the challenge all the way to the Supreme Court. Last Friday the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals confirmed it would hold a hearing on the legal challenge the first week in November.
