Arizona’s Sheriff Arpaio Keeps His Name in the Headlines with “Mugshot of the Day”

Continuing his antics and public humiliation, “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” as he likes to call himself, is now allowing the online community to vote on the “Mugshot of the Day.”

When visiting the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office website, we’re immediately greeted with a “contest.” Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio believes he has come up with a new way to fight crime. This time, he’s posting the mugshots of those in custody, and having people vote on which they believe should have the title of “Mugshot of the Day.”

The controversial lawman said he’s doing it in hopes that the increased Web traffic will highlight the work of his employees.

Arpaio the media monger, is no stranger to the spotlight, and in fact has many wondering if he only does things like this to extend his 15 minutes of fame. He’s argued with comedian Carlos Mencia on television, forced his inmates to wear pink uniforms, let Steven Seagal attack cockfighters in a vehicle that can only be described as a tank, and had a prison Christmas caroling contest.

We’d ask, “What’s next?” but with Arpaio, we’re not sure we want to know.
