Arizona’s anti-immigration “celebrity” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has put together what is being called the “Cold Case Posse” with the mission of investigating the authenticity of President Obama’s birth certificate.
Arpaio says he’s just doing his duty, telling WorldNetDaily, “This investigation does not involve politics. I listen to all the residents of Maricopa County who come to my office with complaints, regardless what their politics are.
“My door is open to everyone, and I don’t kick them out. If a complaint is legitimate, I don’t dump it into the wastebasket. When I get allegations brought to me by the citizens of Maricopa County, I look into the allegations, just like I am doing here.”
Arpaio says the Cold Case Posse is made up of volunteers with so-called professional experience conducting investigations. He says this posse is only responding to a complaint he received from the Tea Party of Surprise, Arizona, that stated that they wish to protect the voting rights of Maricopa’s residents in the 2012 presidential election. They worry that the election would be compromised if President Obama’s birth certificate were revealed to be forged.
This is just the latest in the “birther” argument that was started by those that claim President Obama is not eligible to be president because he was not born in the U.S. They demanded he show his birth certificate –which does state that he was born in Hawaii – though, as expected, birthers then claimed it was fake.
While the media stopped reporting about the birthers’ claims, it appears that Arpaio and the Tea Party are not dropping the matter.
Arpaio has often made headlines for his treatment and attack on the undocumented immigrants of Arizona. His antics include forcing his inmates to wear pink underwear, starring on Steven Seagal’s reality show “Lawman,” and announcing his “secret” raids.
