Argentine tennis star Juan Martin del Potro was robbed in Paris of a briefcase containing his passport, money and personal effects, including a rosary blessed by Pope Francis, the player’s media representative, Jorge Viale, told Efe.

Del Potro was robbed around 11:00 a.m. Saturday as he waited to board the Eurostar train to London, where the eight-man, season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals gets underway on Monday.

“I was going through the check-in for the train and they asked me for an autograph. I turned to sign and in 20 seconds they robbed me,” Del Potro said.

“My rosary blessed by Pope Francis, which I took everywhere, is what means the most to me,” Del Potro said.

The tennis player met the pope, a fellow Argentine, during the Rome Masters earlier this year.

Del Potro is in London and will be in Group B of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, Switzerland’s Roger Federer and France’s Richard Gasquet.
