A court in Buenos Aires arraigned a woman on domestic violence charges after she hit her 7-year-old grandson for bringing home a bad report card, the Argentine press said Thursday.
If convicted, the granny could face anywhere from six months to two years behind bars, and the court placed an embargo of 10,000 pesos ($2,250) on her assets.
The court allowed the case to go forward after witnesses confirmed the boy’s claim that his grandmother beat him with a belt on his legs and backside as punishment for poor grades.
The incident came to light after the youngster missed two days of school and, when asked to explain the absence, told his teacher about the beating.
At her arraignment, the defendant described her grandson as “very restless” and said he was prone to injuring himself while playing or in the bath, Tiempo Argentino newspaper reported.
