A new photography exhibit celebrates eight decades of wrestling at Mexico City’s Arena Mexico.
The exhibit, “Arena Mexico: 80 Years of Continuous Wrestling,” features 124 photographs that tell the story of the venerable venue and the men who have grappled there.
The photo exhibit was inaugurated by Federal District Cultural Secretariat officials and members of the Lutteroth family, which owns the arena, at the Chapultepec Open Gallery on Monday.
The foundation of the World Wrestling Council, which owns the arena and was previously known as Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre, or EMLL, organized the photography exhibit to mark its 80th anniversary.
The exhibit features photographs by Lourdes Grobet, Cesar Flores Ruiz, Rosalio Vera Franco, Alexis Salazar, Gonzalo Lopez Peralta, Rodrigo Reyes Marin, Leonardo Vazquez, Philipp Boll, Nicola Okin Friolli, Jose Muñoz Zao, Israel Solorzano and Enrico De Luigui.
The photographs were chosen to illustrate the evolution of Mexican wrestling over the decades.
“Arena Mexico: 80 Years of Continuous Wrestling” runs until Jan. 31, 2014.
