Colombian television star Sofia Vergara, who is hoping to have a child with her fiance, businessman Nick Loeb, has asked a close friend to act as a surrogate, the New York Post reported.
The child would be the couple’s biologically but Vergara wants a friend to carry the baby because she does not want her career interrupted by a pregnancy, the daily said Friday, citing sources close to the actress.
The process is in the “extremely early stages” and the couple will find out in a few weeks if the procedure was successful or not, the paper reported.
The sources said the 40-year-old actress has wanted for some time for her 21-year-old son, Manolo Gonzalez, to have a sibling, but that her career obligations make it inconvenient for her to bear a child.
The daily added that Loeb, 37, is “very excited” about becoming a father.
Vergara, who has worked in television for 20 years, is currently filming a new season of the hit ABC show “Modern Family” and also promoting her K-Mart clothing line.
