It was a bloody day throughout Mexico as the government prepares for elections throughout the country. An Assistant Attorney General for the state of Chihuahua was gunned down along with one of her two bodyguards. Sandra Salas Garcia was assigned to the Attorney General’s office to deal with drug-related crime in the area. The death is being viewed as another message by the cartels that they do not want their authority undermined.
In Cuidad Juarez, the leading mayorial candidate from the PRI was left a decapitated head outside his house to serve as a warning from the drug cartels.
In Sonora, a deadly shoot out between rival gangs occurred 12 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border leaving 21 dead. At least 23,300 people mostly drug-gang affiliated have been killed since Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war on narco-trafficker.
