The two mountain climbers headed out on January 4th and were due back on Monday. When they did not return or initiate any contact, a search mission was begun. Belen Pedernera age 22 and Tomas Gomez, age 31 were hiking in the Aconcagua Mountains in the Mendoza province, on the border with Chile.
20 people and a helicopter began the search operation. The two were located at 5200 meters on the Piramide slope were temperatures are well below zero. Food was dropped to the climbers on Wednesday and the rescue patrol reached them Friday.
The two climbers were reunited with family in Mendoza city .
