Last week on season 12 of American Idol, Devin Velez was eliminated and shared his disappointment.

Velez was first disappointed to learn he received the lowest number of votes, and was disappointed a second time when he learned the judges would not be using their one save to keep him on the show.

After his elimination Thursday, Velez spoke with E! News about judge Nicki Minaj’s unwillingness to allow the save be used on him, saying, ‘I don’t know why,’ She [Nicki Minaj] has a lot of girl power and lot of girl thoughts. Maybe she just wants a girl to win. The girls have been so consistent with their songs, and the girls are amazing this year [so] I have nothing bad to say about any of the contestants.”

Velez was interviewed a number of times and was constantly asked about the judges and what he thought about the judges, especially Minaj. In one interview he said her reaction to his group’s less than stellar performance was a bit much.

“When went crazy — when she was like, ‘Get off the stage, blah blah blah,’ and it’s just like, ‘Whoa, Miss Minaj, I need you to calm down, please.’ We’re still human, we still have feelings. She doesn’t care sometimes. It’s all good, we still love Nicki.”

After Velez’s comments and the flood of tweets criticizing her decision, the rapper fired back on Twitter with a number of tweets.

Velez responded by saying, “That moment when an adult stoops down to the 3rd grade level…LOL grow up Hun, I’ve got songs to write. smile #movingforward.”

Unfortunately, he deleted that tweet before we could grab it. Too bad, because calling her a third grader when she barely speaks as clearly as a toddler was really sweet.

In the end, Velez can at least count Ellen DeGeneres as a fan, as she tweeted:
