Nedenia Dye, a U.S. businesswoman and owner of a luxury spa on the Honduran island of Roatan, was murdered and her husband is in custody as a suspect, police said Monday.

The 46-year-old great granddaughter of business executive, philanthropist and socialite Marjorie Merriweather Post was found Sunday in her room with “several stab wounds in her body” by employees at the Baan Suerte Spa, senior police officer Alex Madrid told reporters.

Dye had lived some 15 years in the Bay Islands of the Honduran Caribbean, according to the police report.

Authorities on Sunday arrested Lenin Arana, husband of the victim and chief suspect in the crime, Madrid said, without giving further details.

Arana, a Honduran, will be turned over to the public prosecutor’s office “to be investigated for the death of his wife,” Madrid said.

Honduras suffered 85.5 homicides for every 100,000 residents in 2012, compared with a global median rate of 8.8 murders per 100,000, the Violence Observatory at the National Autonomous University said in a study released in February.
