In northern Mexico, eight officers have been reported dead after they were ambushed on Monday.
The State’s Attorney General’s office in Sinaloa, Mexico said four police cars were ambushed on a highway in Navolato, a central coast town on the Mexico-California border.
The Sinaloa official said the gunmen escaped, but it is believed that a vehicle found many miles away belonged to the attackers. The official did not release any names for security reasons.
A cartel simply known as the Sinaloa Cartel is located in the city, and is run by the nation’s most-wanted man, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera.
Also, in Tijuana, the bodies of two decapitated men were found hung by their feet off of a bridge. Police found the heads in an abandoned car on the bridge.
Additional details were not immediately available.
