A Chicago police officer is being sued for asking out a woman he had recently given a speeding ticket to.
Evagelina Paredes is suing Officer Chris Collins for a violation of privacy because he used the motor-vehicle database to look up her address after he had given her a ticket for the purpose of giving
On October 22, Officer Collins gave Paredes a $132 speeding ticket. Some time after, he tracked her down and left a note on the windshield of her car stated that taking her to dinner was the least he could do for giving her the ticket.
The 27-year-old officer’s note read, “It’s Chris … that ugly bald Stickney cop who gave you that ticket. … I know this may seem crazy and you’re probably right, but truth is I have not stopped thinking about you since. I don’t expect a girl as attractive as you to … even go for a guy like me, but I’m taking a shot anyways.” He added that he would understand if she didn’t call him.
More angry than flattered, Paredes filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Chicago. Under Rebecca’s Law, unauthorized use of the DMV database is illegal.
Paredes is a single mother and her attorney said she fears being stalked by the officer ad feels violated.
Officer Collins had stated that he was only looking for a date and meant no harm by the note.
