This is not for the faint of heart and the skittish and you have to love snakes, bugs and rare rodents. The Great River Amazon Raft race, in its thirteenth year, is looking for individuals willing to travel along the Amazon river for three days covering about 112 miles in a skimpy log raft.
And in case we forgot to tell you, you and your other adventuresome friends are paired together to build your own raft. If it’s faulty and sinks good luck – the Amazon is known to house some of the deadliest animals in the world. You might encounter the 500 pound Anaconda that can kill a full-size donkey. Or the Arapaima fish weighing some 440 pounds might just decide to nibble on your toes so keep them in the raft and if they don’t the fierce piranha that kill in groups might do the job. On the positive side you will see some of the world’s greatest ecological treasures and flora and fauna not seen anywhere else.
This year’s event takes place from October 4 – 9th launching in Iquitos, Peru and last year 50 teams of four competed coming from all over the world. The organizer’s “Peru Experience” call it a life changing trip. If you are interested click here and mucho mucho bueña suerte, you will need it.
