The scheduled concert performance of the Jonas Brothers on October 21, 2010 in Monterrey, Mexico has been cancelled due to security concerns.
Concert promoter Live Nation issued a statement that the concert was cancelled in order to keep Jonas Brothers’ fans safe after “a series of unfortunate events” in the country occurred. Though Monterrey is one of the most affluent cities in the country it has been plagued by violence leaving 650 dead thus far this year.
Though the city has a lower crime rate than many U.S. cities there have been crime incidents of unusual boldness ranging from live grenades thrown on busy highways to gun battle in supermarkets. It is also reported that 60 percent of the Monterrey businesses have received extortion threats from drug cartels
