In spite of a double-digit lead in the upcoming Venezuela Presidential election, current President Hugo Chavez added star power to his campaign, U.S. star power that is.
Actor Sean Penn joined Chavez this weekend at an election rally where he was called ‘dear friend’ by the President. Chavez who at most times is anti-American spoke glowingly of the U.S. when introducing Penn by stating, according to Reuters, “We’re all Americans, from the north the center, the south. Long live the American continent!”
The Presidential election is October 7 and pits the incumbent Chavez against former Governor of Miranda, Henrique Capriles. Chavez has been battling some form of cancer that put him behind on the campaign trail but he is making up for lost time and expects to win.
Penn was joined by Argentine producer Fernando Sulichi, who was the Executive Producer on Oliver Stones ‘Savages’. Penn did not address the crowd in Caracas but did a lot of fist pumping on behalf of Chavez – watch video.
