Photo: A Daughter, a Salsa, and the Super Bowl. NY Giants' Victor Cruz Has Had Quite a Year
Salsa-dancing receiver Victor Cruz has had quite a year, and not just because he became a father for the first time.
As his team heads into Sunday’s Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, the Puerto Rican sensation caps off a fantastic year.
In his first full season in the NFL, Cruz was the Giants’ fourth wide receiver, but after injuries took out two receivers he was on his way to showing everyone what he could really do.
He later tied the record for longest touchdown reception at 99 yards on December 24 against the New York Jets.
The 25-year-old athlete currently holds the New York Giants’ record for 1,536 receiving yards in a single season.
Ahead of Super Bowl XLVI, Cruz told, The Detroit News, ‘Nobody expected this kind of performance from me. Including myself.’
Though his skills as a receiver are impressive, his other talents have garnered him a number of fans all on their own.
Cruz’s touchdown dance shows his Latin roots, as he breaks into what is now his signature dance: the salsa. The first time the world saw his touchdown dance was when he scored against the 99 yards against the Jets.
Today, his charming personality, salsa skills, and fluency in both English and Spanish, make him the one we’ll be watching this Sunday.
Check out his dance moves at Modell’s Sporting Goods store in New York’s Time Square where he donned a smile, and laughed as he joined a group of fans wearing his signature “Cha Cha Salsa” shirts.
