Republican Senatorial candidate Carla Fiorina launched a new website to bring her campaign to the Spanish-speaking Hispanic community of California this weekend. The website www.amigosdefiorina.com is detailed on her impressive professional resume and opponent Barbara Boxer’s shortcoming’s but very light on her stance on comprehension immigration reform.
Fiorina launched the website with the endorsement of President George W. Bush’s former commerce secretary Carlos Gutierrez who appeared at her side. Ironically, Gutierrez, who is Cuban-born, provided his endorsement to Fiornia even though she is not taking a stance on amnesty or offering a path to citizenship, a stance he himself supports as beneficial to the economy.
Fiornia favors a three step approach when dealing with immigration – first border security, then revise the current guest worker program and finally crack down on employers hiring undocumented workers, in that order. When pressed on the issue of concern to many California’s U.S. Hispanic voters, which represent 1/3 of the electorate, she stated “When we secure the border, and when we have a temporary worker program that works, then you come ask me that question again.” Since she is refusing to address what to do with the estimated 12 million individuals already in this country, and is on record as supporting Arizona’s SB 1070, therefore it will be doubtful those individuals and their families will actually be “Amigos de Carla.”
