$340 Million Pot Bust in Mexico

Mexican authorities at the border city of Tijuana seized 105 tons of marijuana, making this the largest pot bust thus far this year.

The marijuana was found almost accidently as Mexican police were investigating a convoy of cars that had shot at the officers.  During the shoot out one police officer and one offender were injured.  The detained individuals that were riding in the convoy led police to several houses in Tijuana.

The Mexican security forces then conducted raids throughout several Tijuana neighborhoods arresting eleven people while discovering 10,000 wrapped packages of marijuana with an estimated street value of $340 million.  All the marijuana was destined to be sold in the U.S.

The Mexican government eradicates approximately 74,130 acres a year of marijuana.
